November 2006 Weekend Review"I was rather apprehensive about how I would cope with the runs, whether I would cope, but they are very well thought out and the guides are great. All the staff are incredibly approachable, encouarging and supportive. It has been an excellent weekend and I would highly recommend it to others, whether beginner or experienced athlete. Good 'take home' points." - Catriona from Perth"Many thanks for a fantastic weekend" - Tim from Bradford "I don't think it can be improved. For me it was perfect. All of you were so helpful, the group was good and setting unbeatable...you have got it absolutely right...I would love to return." - Will from West Midlands "Just a great weekend with delightful people" - Tom from Dumfriesshire "Can't fault any aspect of the weekend" - Richard from Edinburgh Yet another fabulous weekend with another great group of runners! It was wonderful for us to see so many familiar faces from previous weekends or tailored holidays and a pleasure to share our love of this area with some guests for the first time. (Many of them have already booked up for events with us for 2007!) Everyone, no matter what level of running, enjoyed guided runs through the beautiful Balmoral countryside - snow capped peaks of Lochnagar as our backdrop and red squirrels and red deer for company! The 30 guests - from all corners of the UK and ranging from relative beginners to experienced sub-40min 10k runners - were split into 5 running groups, each with their own friendly guide to pace the runs accordingly and following different routes around the Balmoral Estate. The guides - Ruth, Neil, Pat, Phil and Emma enjoyed the small groups and kept them on the right tracks! The food - including local specialities such as Balmoral venison and salmon, homemade soups and healthy, appetising snacks - was one of the highlights of the weekend and the time and effort put in by Dr Chris Fenn, our nutritionist and the chef and staff at Balmoral ensured that everyone ate like Kings and Queens! As usual, the talks with Running and Fitness experts went really well... and this time we had the opportunity to hear from the Head Ranger at Balmoral about the workings of the estate, which we all found fascinating. We could have listened all night but rumbling tums drew us to the dinner tables! Mel Edwards and Fraser Clyne worked non-stop to allow everyone the chance to talk on a one-to-one basis about running tips, techniques and stories. Dr Chris Fenn again gave an entertaining, interactive and thought provoking session about running nutrition and hydration. After the longest of the 3 runs on Saturday, legs and bodies were massaged back to life by our massage theapists - Catriona, Lynne (and Pat once she had finished guiding!!) and several guests had individual, hour-long biomechanical assessments with Gillian our podiatrist. Some were delighted to learn that their running style had very liitle to fault! Chris and Anne from the Running Shop in Aberdeen gave an informative talk about running shoes, their design and uses and then joined us for the Sunday recovery run! We were delighted that everyone enjoyed the weekend and we are looking forward to the next one - HOGMANAY and DETOX 10K! (Fully Booked) as well as all our events in 2007. |
