Training Weekend Itinerary |
We operate a number of special training weekends throughout the year each with a variety of organised events, including guided runs, discussions/presentations all aiming to help you get the most out of your running. We have guest speakers and coaches from a wide range of disciplines including nutrition, massage, flexibility and motivation. We take care of everything while you are here. A typical weekend might be: Day 1 | | 1.00pm | Arrival and Welcome - overview of the weekend, including proposed groups for guided runs. | 2.00pm | Guided runs - in groups according to ability (usually between 4 and 8 miles). Followed by a 'hill-bounding' session for those who wish. | 4.30pm | 'Chill out' time - tea & healthy (and tasty!) snack. | 5.30pm | Pilates workshop, emphasis on core stability and injury prevention. | | 7.00pm | Dinner as a group at the venue or local restaurant. | Day 2 | | | 7.30-8.30am | Breakfast | 9.00am | Guest speaker - anything of relevance to the world of running, including top coaches and former international athletes. Our guests have enjoyed hearing from, among others, Kathrine Switzer who changed the face of women's endurance running and her husband, Roger Robinson who also was an elite athlete throughout his career...Ron Hill former marathon world record holder & European Champion and Don Macgregor, Olympian and veteran world marathon and 10k champion. | 10.00am | Guided runs - again in groups and the long run of the weekend - marathon preparation might include a classic highland long distance route, the shorter runs might be working towards 10k improvements or less. We are often joined by the guests on the runs throughout the weekend. | | 1.00pm | Lunch | 2.00pm | Sports massage or biomechanical assessment for those who require. 'Chill out' time | 4.30pm | Tea/coffee Guest speaker - specific questions raised in advance of the weekend might be addressed at this session by experts in the field. Staying injury free, race strategies, philosophy of running, training schedules.... Mel Edwards our coaching expert might take this session. | 7.00pm | Dinner at the venue or local restaurant | Day 3 | | | 7.30-8.30am | Breakfast | 9.30am | Guest speaker/ Workshop - Dr Chris Fenn, acclaimed nutritionist and adviser to Everest and Antarctic expeditions has given some insights into getting the most out of your performance through good nutrition and hydration. Tea/Coffee | 11.00am | Guided 'recovery' run again in groups and much easier than Saturday's run. Hopefully well rested after sports massage! | | 1.00pm | Lunch | | 2.30pm | Review of the weekend - feedback and questions | | 3.30pm | Finish and goodbyes |
Some of our special training weekends have included additional sessions on such things as Stretching and Yoga.
