Our Race Weekends – What to Expect

We normally offer a weekend package of 2-3 nights with guaranteed race entry plus optional extras such as sports massage, coaching tips, training plans, stretching and core stability sessions, guided pre-race runs and review of the race route. The only exceptions are:

  • our Hogmanay and Lumphanan Detox 10k race package - normally 4 or 5 nights and includes tickets to a Highland Hogmanay (New Year’s Eve) Ceilidh where traditional dress (kilts for the boys) and dancing are the order of the day (but not essential)!
  • MacbethFest Team Relay - NEW for 2009 - also 4 or 5 nights and also with tickets to a ceilidh!

Our Race Weekends centre around:

  • Balmoral 10k/5k and children's races in April
  • MacbethFest Team Relay in May (Teams consist of 2 men, 2 women)
  • Ballater 10 Mile Race in July
  • Loch Ness Festival of Running (Marathon, 10k and 5k) in October
  • Hogmanay Package around the Lumphanan Detox 10k which is run on 2nd January each year (giving folk a day to recover from the Hogmanay celebrations!)

Non-running partners are very welcome and will have plenty to keep them occupied and interested!

A Typical Race Weekend with Running The Highlands

Friday
1.00pm  Arrival at accommodation. We specially select accommodation for quality and value for money and can cater for most budgets. We will meet you and discuss the plan for the weekend.
2.00pm
Drive round the race route, discuss race strategies.
4.00pm
Optional stretching/core stability session.
Saturday
  Breakfast
9.00am Guided runs – in groups graded according to level. (Optional) This will be a gentle leg stretch after travelling on the Friday and a chance to enjoy some highland scenery without the stress of race conditions and often is a nice way to blow away the cobwebs!
pre and post lunch
Optional sports massage & discussions about personal training programmes.
Rest of the day free to explore the area and relax.
Sunday
Early!
Breakfast
9.00am
Depending on the race start time, we will make sure that you are at the start in good time and look after your kit while you race. Most (but not all) our races are on a Sunday. We would adjust the itinerary to suit a Saturday race accordingly.
4.00pm
Optional sports massage
Monday
Many of our guests like to stay for an additional night, particularly after a Marathon Race and so the Monday morning can be spent as required, perhaps with a massage or gentle walk before leaving to go back home.

We strive to make sure you have the best possible time with us in this beautiful part of the country and so will gear the weekend exactly to your wishes.
