Douneside Spring Training Weekend April 2008 

april_08_weekend_at_douneside “Four seasons in one day” is how Sarah Mack, BBC TV Presenter, described the weather on the Friday of our Training Weekend at Douneside! We had sun, wind, rain and even a little sleety snow in complete contrast to the tropical conditions we enjoyed April 2007!

We were joined by guests from all over the UK who heard talks from Mel Edwards, our Level 4 Endurance Coach on how endurance running can benefit from faster work in training, Dr Chris Fenn our Sports Nutritionist and Fraser Clyne, former GB marathon athlete and journalist. The guests even endured being filmed by BBC TV’s Landward programme!
Sessions with Emma on Gerard Hartmann’s Stretching For Runners and Core Stabilty and with Ruth on Aqua Jogging in the pool proved challenging but fun!start_of_speed_session

To follow up on his Friday talk, Mel (along with Fraser) put everyone through a great speed session on the Sunday – the path around the lawn at Douneside was a convenient, (almost) 400m circuit!

Much good food was enjoyed by all, thanks to Chris’s involvement with the Douneside chef in menu preparation and tired muscles were soothed (pummled!?) back in to shape by Catriona.
