Our Training Weekends – What to Expect
We operate a number of special training weekends throughout the year each with a variety of organised events, including guided runs, discussions/presentations all aiming to help you get the most out of your running. We have guest speakers and coaches from a wide range of disciplines including nutrition, massage, flexibility and motivation. We take care of everything while you are here.
A typical weekend might be:
|12.30pm||Arrival/get together and lunch|
|1.30pm||Introduction. Overview of the weekend. This will also include a discussion of the different running groups for the weekend - based on info we receive from you before the weekend about your current running experience/level. We always ensure everyone is in a small group (about an average ratio of 1 guide: 4 guests!!) at the right level for them and these groups may well change as the weekend goes on to suit. You should NEVER be worried that your running level will not ‘fit’ with the rest of the groups!|
|2.00pm||Talk from one of our special guests or our resident expert, Fraser Clyne, ex-GB international marathon runner (PB 2:11)|
|2.45pm||Guided runs – in groups graded according to level, each with their own guide who knows the area and is 1st Aid trained.|
|5.00pm||Afternoon snack & tea/coffee – Very Important!|
|5.30pm||Talk from, for example, Dr. Chris Fenn, Sports Nutritionist, ‘Nutrition and Hydration’|
||Special guests’ talk – guests have included:
||Guided runs – in groups graded according to level. This will be the ‘long’ run for the weekend and can vary, depending on the weekend and the level of runners from a flatish 4miles to a hilly 18-20 miler. There will be a variety of distances and speeds of run available on all our weekends and we try to tailor these as much as possible to the needs of our guests - we have plenty of guides!|
|Pre and post lunch
||Small group sessions with Fraser Clyne, optional sports massage, & discussions with those who have chosen to have personal training programmes. Group sessions on Stretching for Runners and Core Stability, using the exercises recommended by Gerard Hartmann. We might also be able to offer fitness assessments at this point, eg VO2 max etc.|
|4.30pm||Afternoon snack & tea/coffee – Very Important again!!|
|5.00pm||Pre-dinner talk from special guests, or sometimes talks of interest – eg, Glynn Jones, Head Ranger, Balmoral Castle Estate|
|9.15am||Review of Stretching/Core Stability exercises to help reinforce what was learned and have another practice!|
|10.30am||Guided runs – in groups graded according to level – a recovery run or sometimes an alternative hill session if RTH guests wish. We would usually have both to choose from.|
|2.30pm||Review and wind up, Fraser Clyne and Neil Stewart, with possibly a Q&A session with our special guests.|
Throughout the weekend, all the food is locally sourced and the menus are all designed by Dr Chris Fenn, working with chefs at our Training Weekend locations.
We can transport you to and from Aberdeen Airport or Train Station if you wish for a small additional cost. The transport to and from the runs, where necessary, is organised for you by us and is included in the cost of your holiday.
We strive to make sure you have the best possible time with us in this beautiful part of the country.
