Running The Highlands, one of the pioneers of running holidays, was established in the summer of 2005 to provide recreational runners from all over the world with the opportunity to run in and enjoy some of the Scottish Highlands' most stunning and inspirational places all year round. Our aim has always been to ensure that our customers get the most out of their running holiday and we are delighted that this seems to be the case - as so many return again and again! Even our special guest speakers have very much enjoyed coming to our training weekends; such legends as Ron Hill, Sonia O'Sullivan, Kathrine Switzer, Charlie Spedding and Dave Moorcroft (who has come back to speak a second time).

We are based in Deeside, near the picturesque village of Ballater which is situated in the Cairngorms National Park; 50 miles west of Aberdeen. This is where we started offering our running holidays - as the unlimited supply of wonderful off road trails are almost tailor made for running. Many of our running holidays are still based in this area, including our training weekends which normally take place on the nearby Balmoral Castle Estate (the Queen's summer residence). We have also developed our offering into other parts of the Highlands with our long distance running trips which we started in October 2009 with our inaugural Run Across Scotland (from Inverness in the east to the Isle of Skye in the west) and thereafter our Run Up The Highlands (from Alyth near Perth in the south to Spey Bay on the Moray Firth in the north) which we introduced in 2012.

Running can be tough if you don't enjoy it and so we try to do whatever we can to make our running holidays enjoyable. The success of Running The Highlands is down to listening to our customers and trying to exceed their expectations of our holidays. Our customers tell us that the following are key to their enjoyment:

  • Amazing scenery
  • Good and varied trails to run on
  • Personable and experienced running guides
  • High quality advice about running
  • Other services linked to running (such as availability of sports massage, advice on stretching, etc)
  • Excellent value accommodation, based in a good locale (i.e. interesting, scenic and with good facilities)
  • Great food
  • Transport
  • Interesting and new challenges
  • All round great service

So, we place great emphasis on all the above and in addition we try to establish any other factors which may enhance a customer's running holiday experience.
